Community Quilts
This part of Thousand Islands Quilters’ Guild could also be
called our Outreach programme. We reach out to our community in several
ways.
The
Blue Trunk
During 2009-2010 the Thousand Islands
Quilters' Guild, under the leadership of community quilts co-ordinator,
Jackie Peterson and her committee, will be focusing on our home community. Jackie
has provided a steamer trunk to hold any and all donated quilts. When an
emergency arises and a quilt is needed, we will be ready to help out. Look
for the Blue Trunk.!
Betsy
Speck is bringing back our Block of the Month project this year, so when
members make their blocks, we will put them together for the Blue Trunk.
Don’t have time to quilt your tops? Monica (Jackie's longarm machine)
and I will do it!
Every November we hold a Christmas
Stocking Raffle for our members only. A stocking is filled with quilt
related “goodies” and
tickets are sold at our October and November meetings. All proceeds go to
the Salvation Army for the wonderful work they do in our community. We
usually raise about $200.00.
Raising our Profile
In order to make the public aware of our existence and of the
contributions we make to the community, we participate in quilt shows.
Also in the library’s Meeting Room, we
keep the walls decorated with wall hangings made by our members. They warm
up the atmosphere for the local groups who meet there and are much
appreciated.
