Chernobyl Quilts
Chernobyl quilts are doing very well under an enthusiastic team with Mary Bernard as spokesperson and with the help of Guild members who have been sewing up hundreds of blocks.

2009 was a banner year for Chernobyl quilts, we sent an astonishing 153 quilts to very appreciative recipients in the state owned orphanages of Belarus. Here are some pictures of the ladies who devoted time and energy to this project as the quilts were handed over to Canadian Aid for Chernobyl.

of Canadian Aid for Chernobyl

Together with the 153 assorted colorful baby, child and adult size quilts being handed out are 44 bibs, 8 reversible vests, 300 knit dolls and warm mitts and scarves. This is due in no small part to Mary Bernard and the guild members who continue to support this project.

Each quilt has a label (in Russian) that reads: "made especially for you by the Thousand Islands Quilters' Guild, Brockville, Ontario, Canada. The translation of the label is due to the efforts of one of our members, Nadia Nielsen.
